How to Negotiate and Grow your Salary So, you now understand that you're worth more than your being paid for your hard work, effort... and presence! Here is a comprehensive, but short way to learn how to negotiate and grow your salary! If anyone deserves it... let's face it, you do! First, you want to start out be researching the salary for the position you are interviewing for, or that you already have! You should make comparisons according to your geographic location, and the amount of years you have in that particular field and size of the company. You should get familiar with and always know the true market rate for your chosen skill set and position. Next... you should know how much you're worth! You should know your value. Your current or prospective employer will determine the level of value you bring to the company. If you already know your own value, it will prevent you from settling on the first offer. Don't settle for anything less than what you're worth! Don't reveal too much information in your interview... by doing so, you diminish the room for negotiation in your scenario. You should carefully consider your response to “How much salary are you looking for?” Think before you answer this question! As in any bartering situation, you should set your self up for room to negotiate. you should ask for a higher salary than your actual salary goal. If your employer or prospective employer makes a counter-offer, you settle for negotiating your salary closer to you salary goal. Lastly, when your employer or prospective employer's salary offer is lower than expected and they let you know for certain that it's non-negotiable, consider playing a different hand of cards... try inquiring about and negotiating a signing bonus or consideration for a raise in salary in a shorter amount of time than stipulated in your employment contract.
